The Song Written in 1902, The Entertainer is a rag time two step both enjoyed as music and for dance. This is important to Canada because he is a reflection of the character of Canadians that is seen around the world. Terry Fox has given Canada a true role model. Terry Fox has shown the world that Canadians are full with heart and determination. He has shown Canadians, and the world that perseverance will pay off. Terry Fox had all the obstacles lined up and he knocked them down, although the malignant tumor in his right leg finally overwhelmed Terry, he still overcame numerous obstacles. Terry Fox had dealt with the tumor in his leg and he overcame the amputation of his leg. He also managed to train for the marathon of hope even though overcoming a physical and emotional amputation. He also was able to start his run for the marathon of Hope, by an valiant attempt to run across Canada raising money as he ran. Even though Terry Fox did not complete h is goal he still lives on today in our currency, stamps, and many more ways. Terry Fox has given Canada some one that they can try to measure up to. Terry Fox is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, however he spent his child years in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. Terry was an athletic teenager, participated in various sports. Terry was only 18 years old when the doctors broke the news that he had bone cancer. Thus the doctors were compelled to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres above the knee in 1977. However, Terry Fox over came is amputation with optimism and grace, he was determined to do something with his life. When Terry was recovering in the hospital he was so overwhelmed of all the suffering and bravery by the other cancer patients. In the spring of 1977 Terry begins his first steppingstone into showing the world what Canadians are all about. Terry was illuminated with a brilliant idea, a cross-Canada run to raise money for cancer victims, The Marathon of Hope . Terrys next step was to start training for this ambitious project. He had to teach himself how to run again, this was not as easy as it sounds. It took Terry a few months before he was able to sustain himself while running. However while Training Terry ran over 5,000 kilometers this pales compared to the distance of Canada coast to coast. Nonetheless Terry was still determined to attempt the run. By fall Terry was confident in his condition that he was ready to contact the Canadian Cancer Society for them to support his run. In his letter he writes, Im not a dreamer, and Im not saying this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer, but I believe in miracles. I have to.. Terry later received a letter of optimism and hope from the Canadian Cancer Society. The Canadian Cancer Society wished Terry t he best of luck. At this time to Canada and to the rest of the world, Terry Fox did not exist. No one knew who he was. However, over time his voice would be herd, his name would be recognized, the sleeping giant was awakening. Even though Terry had little media and public support when he first began his journey he was still determined to accomplish his personal goal to make it across Canada. He knew this would be the most significant and challenging obstacle that he would have to encounter. He trained hard though he knew he was ready to start. On April 12, 1980 he starts his odyssey in St. Johns, Newfoundland. He symbolizes this by dipping his artificial leg into the Atlantic Ocean. He then sets off to the promised land of his upbringing, British Columbia. Even though not too many people where aware of the significance of Terrys efforts, for those who were, the cancer patients that he went through rehab with. Terrys efforts meant the world to them, it gave them hope, optimism, it al lowed them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just by a simple act of running Terry was able to give those Canadians hope and a role model. Terrys odyssey started in St. Johns, Newfoundland and he moves West passing Towns such as Charlottetown, PEI, Quebec City, QC, Montreal, QC, Toronto, ON, and Thunder Bay, ON. On his way through these towns more and more Canadians started to support his cause. When he passed through Quebec City Terry got support from Gerard Cote, four-time Boston Marathon winner, Terry was honoured by being introduced to him. Furthermore entering Montreal Terry was accompanied with Montreal Alouette kicker Don Sweet and four wheelchair athletes. As Terry ran through Toronto he was able to have the chance to meet his hockey hero, Darryl Sittler. Darryl awarded Terry his 1980 NHL all-star team sweater. Darryl said, Ive been around athletes a long time and Ive never seen any with his courage and stamina. A Canadian supporter commented, He makes you believe i n the human race again. His popularity was snowballing, it grew and grew, more people were aware of what he was accomplishing. He was now spreading hope to the citizens of Canada. He was inspiring them not with his ability to run, but his ability to take on that unreachable dream and try to grasp it. Canadians where able to relate and be inspired by this because Terrys goal is similar to David Vs. Goliath. Where Terry is the underdog taking on the what seems to be the unbeatable monster of cancer. The Canadians where cheering for the underdog, cheering for Terry to make it. However the more Terry was spreading hope and inspiration to Canadians, the more and more his cancer was spreading towards Terrys lungs. On September 1, 1980, after a grueling 143 days and 5,373 kilometers Terry stopped running just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The reality of the spreading cancer set in for Terry. Has he ran his last kilometers the people where unaware of Terrys situation. During his last kil ometer Terry was reported as saying, People were still lining the road saying to me, Keep going, dont give up, you can do it, you can make it, were all behind you. Well, you dont hear that and have it go in one ear and out the other, for me anyway There was a camera crew waiting at the three-quarter mile point to film me. I dont think they even realized that they filmed my last mile people were still saying, You can make it all the way, Terry. I started to think about those comments in that mile, too. Yeah, I thought, this might be my last one. On the same day Terry announced at a press conference in Thunder Bay that his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope is short lived. Terry had simple but powerful words during that press conference. When I started this Run, I said that if we all gave one dollar, wed have $22 million for cancer research, and I dont care, man, theres no reason that isnt possible. No reason.. Its so simple, but its true. The next day on September 2, 1980, Isadore Sharp, Chairman and CEO of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, contacted Terry Foxs family promising them that he would organize a fundraising run that would be held every year in Terrys name. Terrys dream was now coming to life, he was able to raise money, but most importantly cancer awareness. On September 9, 1980, C.T.V. network cancer awareness fundraiser. The telethon lasted five hours and was able to raise ten million dollars. This was a breakthrough for cancer awareness in Canada. The people were recognizing cancer as a major threat. They Canadians did something. It started with Terrys Marathon of Hope, and was followed up by funding of Canadians. By February 1, 1981, Terrys words of one dollar from every Canadian to fight cancer was herd. The Canadian population reached 24.1 million, and the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope total funds were 24.17 million. This was truly one of the finest moments of Canadian history. Terry Foxs efforts were being recognized even after his death, his ideals of hard work and determination were once again celebrated on August 29, 1981 when Terry Fox is inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. Then on the first of July in 1998 the Terry Fox Monument was rededicated in Ottawa and is now part of the Path of Heroes. In the second conception, groups are pre-determined and fixed entities, which act cohesively on all matters. The term 'group rights' refers quite specifically to a certain type of group. First there are the national minorities, who have been forcibly integrated into a dominant culture, and need to be protected from further assimilatory tactics. The second type of group is one which has been marginalised, discriminated against or disadvantaged in some way, either on sexual, racial or cultural grounds. Van Dyke noted two main problems with Britain's post war liberal political theory, the first being the 'veil of ignorance' it adhered to (Stapleton). I classify a 26 as a good score since it is in the 83rd percentile for all ACT test-takers. However, a good score for youisdependent on what college you hope to attend. Toanswer the questions of how many can you skip for a 26 composite score on the ACT, you must know how the test is scored. Knowing this information and hoping to get a 26 composite score, you should plan to skip up to: about 1 full passagein English (14 out of 15 questions in the last passage) 17 in Math 1 full passage in Reading (10 questions) 1 full passage in Science (5-7 questions)* *For Science, I would recommend skipping the Conflicting Viewpoints passage since it is the longest with 7 questions and, therefore, the most time consuming. Limitations of Forensic Science Over the past decades, Forensic science has evolved and has been embraced by most states as a vital constituent of modern legal practice. It is widely used in courts as a major source for the outcome of a verdict. Forensic science has attained a merit of its own although it is relatively new in the jurisprudence world. As technology and science have evolved with time, more and new methodologies and practices in law realm have been established. In United States (U.S.) specifically, the application of utilizing forensic analysis has become a routine (James,2009). Statement of the problem This report explores the use of forensic science and DNA in the judicial processes, its strengths and limitations. Admissibility and Use of Forensic Evidence in Courts Over the last decades, forensic evidences have taken part in the search for justice to individuals who have been convicted for crimes and also as a link to suspects. It has been cited as a fallible source unlike the eye witnesses. The rate at which forensic evidence is used in criminal courts depends on the type of offence. For example, for murder cases forensic science evidence is presented almost always. In criminal cases, a prosecution team commissions most of the forensic assignments. On the other hand, the legal team of the defendant can commission forensic assignments to challenge or check the prosecutions forensic evidence or to determine the innocence of the defendant. Exoneration Based on DNA Evidence Cases that would have been impossible to prosecute before the arrival of DNA typing are now prosecuted. A number of states created DNA data bases on offenders that are known which they compare against unsettled crimes. Matches are provided from their databases which assist to successfully prosecute a handful of them. Persons wrongly convicted are exonerated by use of DNA which is termed as a legislative reform movement. Convictions can be successfully challenged using DNA analysis on existing evidence. To ensure that testimony and results can withstand rigorous examination and that they are of high caliber, high standards are maintained for the collection and preserving of evidence. DNA methodology of testing must also meet precise scientific criteria for accuracy and reliability. In future, we expect miniaturized portable instrumentation to provide crime scene analysis that will be computer-link remote analysis. This will allow quick identification and rapid elimination of innocent suspects. Availability of markers will also be needed to identify physical qualities of the DNA contributor. Using this information, it will be easy to narrow a suspect search with increase in efficiency and accuracy of operation. How can society not be envious or greedy to obtain what the few have in their life?Part of society is happy with their position in life; just being able to pay the bills, and take care of their family is what drives them. However, the other part of society wonder, â€Å"How have some individuals been gifted with monetary wealth? †, and their resentment builds. The â€Å"Get Rich† schemes are created. The individuals trying to make the quick buck will pressure their friends and family into buying the Mary Kay, Tupperware, or lending money to place bets on Sport games or a gambling weekend at the casino. All this under the assumption that they will make a great deal of money, and earn the respect of the wealthy elite.The most well know form of money schemes is embezzlement. An understanding definition of embezzlement comes from Global Legal Resources; it states: Embezzlement is a criminal offense which involves the fraudulent and secret misappropriation of money or assets by an agent to who the property has been entrusted. Yasuyoshi bought umerous luxury homes, a citrus ranch, premium vehicles, unstable business ventures that failed, jewelry and extraordinary animals. He blamed his wife in court on the reasoning on why he performed the embezzlement. Stating she was always unsatisfied. Yasuyoshi was even so ignorant that when he was asked where the money was coming from, he stated he was a secret inventor of Nintendo. In 1997, Yasuyoshi Kato plead guilty to six felony counts. They ranged from mail fraud (Statute 18 U. S. C. Section 1341) to wire fraud (Statute 18 U. S. C. Section 1343).In the end, he was sentenced to 63 mon ths in a federal state prison and an additional five years of probation. This was the maximum sentencing at this time. (Marquet, 2010) The second largest case of embezzlement was Gilbert Beesmyer of Guarantee Building & Loan Association of Hollywood, California. He was found guilty in December of 1930 (Statute 18 U. S. C. Section 981), and length of the fraud is unknown but assumed to be less than one year. Beesemyer was able to steal the equivalent of $100 million in 2010 dollars using his position within the company as the founder, general secretary and manager.The Guarantee Building and Loan Association went broke because of Beesemyer’s actions. He stole the money in form of overdraft penalties, and repeatedly stated he planned to repay the money. Even though he was sentenced to 10 to 100 years to the San Quentin prison, he was released under parole in 1940. The community that had invested in Beesemyer’s bank was destroyed. Businesses failed, 2,500 families went bro ke, individuals went to asylums and thirty committed suicide. In the end, Beesemyer was able to live his life out to the fullest at age 97 in Baltimore Maryland. Marquet, 2010) Ricardo Carrasco, a Uruguayan national, was able to embezzle $97. 7 million from the BankBoston Corp located in Boston Massachusetts. As the same as the Beesemyer’s case, officials were unable to determine the length of the fraud. He was uncovered in 1998 at the age of 41. Yet, Carrasco suspected that the bank officials finally caught on to him, so he went into hiding. Carrasco started his association with the BankBoston Corp in 1977 at the Uruguayan branch. In 1998, the bank transferred him the Boston location. Carrasco executed fraudulent loans to an Oldemar Laborda in Argentina.Oldemar Laborda has been known for having a highly suspicious past. The FDIC ordered Carrasco to repay $73 million. The bank wrote off $66 million and even offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. But t o this day, he remains a fugitive. He even overcharged clients in the excess of $61 million for his services and so-called expenses on over-seeing their accounts. Doorly spent the money on gifts for his wife and mistress, and apartment for his son, vehicles, travel, airplanes and numerous failed business ventures. He forged the statements that were mailed to the clients, and even went as far as to deceive the outside auditors.Doorly’s new assistant, Kim Borans, was the one who found irregularities in the accounts. She immediately went to one of the officers of Tenens Corp to report her findings and suspicion of embezzlement. Doorly was fired and a forensic internal audit was conducted of his accounts. On March 201, Doorly was sentenced to 17-1/2 years to a federal prison. Siddiqui had a base salary of $225,000 a year and was the supervisor of 120 employees in purchasing department. His department was responsible for purchasing merchandise on all Fry’s 34 locations. Siddiqui even went as far is to set-up a dummy vendor where he could embezzle the money. He stole the money to satisfy his gambling habit and the need to live the high life. At the time Siddiqui was caught he was being sued by three casinos, Planet Hollywood, Palms Casino and Trump Taj Mahal, for outstanding debt on gambling.Venetian Resort and Casino in Las Vegas reported that he gambled $17. 9 million dollars with them alone. She began her career with the company as a temporary worker, and within one year was promoted to vice president of finance. She approved at least 204 wire transfers of funds from the company bank accounts to her personal American Express credit card. Also, Sachdeva issued more than 500 cashier’s checks from the company†™s accounts to pay for personal lavish expenses. On top of this, she informed other Koss employees to make fraudulent entries into the company’s books to conceal her theft. The theft was only caught after American Express notified Koss of unusally high volume of large transactions.Sachdeva used her illegally obtained money for a vacation home in Hawaii, a new Mercedes Benz, luxury travel, furs, designer shoes, art and jewelry. The thought of following other people rules bothered me; I did know that in order to get where I wanted to be in life I had to start somewhere. So I told myself that after high school I had to go to college, and work and save. I decide to pursue my degrees in Business Management and Accounting, because, I enjoy using money, working with others, helping people solve their money issues and helping them getting back on the right the track, as well as making people happy. I see it as if I have the knowledge and the education of what Im doing, I dont have to worry about anyone using me or stealing from me; Ill be able to take care of my own finances. Having a B.A. in Business Management will impact my life in a positive way, by giving me a hands up in my dreams of becoming my own boss at an young age, as well as living my life comfortably. Due to my dreams in life, and where I want to be I chose not to give up even when things are stressful at times. Giving up on my educational goals is not an option because, I know that if I dont have a degree, my life will not go anywhere, and I will just work at dead-end jobs. Not only do I want to want to go college and get a B.A. but I want to get excellent grades, and become an honor student. Im committed to sticking with my degree and working with Monroe College to help me succeed and graduate. Having a lot of money, and time invested in my success, I cant allow quitting to be an option. My First Experience of Camp - Original Writing "AHHHHHHHHHH!" The cry of my fellow companion echoed throughout the musty wooden cabin. "A massive spider!" was the next shout from the top bunk of my bed. Disorientated, and still half asleep, I asked what the matter was. I fumbled for the compulsory torch we had been issued with and switched it on. There was no electricity in the cabin; the torch light cast weird shadows and created an eerie atmosphere. I got out of my sleeping bag to check on him. My friend was quite agitated and clearly scared. He looked at me, with fear etched into his face. He was holding his pillow as if it was something that would make it all go away, but I knew it could not. His whole body was shaking. I sympathised with him and told him he could sleep in my bed. On hearing this, he leapt down without hesitating. I was now faced with the prospect of having to sleep on the floor. I looked down and all I could see was dirty floorboards, laden with lumps of dried mud. I knew this was going to be a rough couple of days. The sun shone brightly in the morning and beamed over the whole of the camp. This was meant to be 'something that you can take a lot out of', but, now, I saw it differently. When we were told that we would be going, as a class, to a camp, I immediately smiled. I had always wanted to experience what camp life would be like and how much I would enjoy it. At the time, to a ten year old, it seemed like Christmas had come early. However, the night before as I lay on the cold, hard floorboards of the cabin everything had changed. Now, to a deflated ten year old, it seemed like hell. The only thing I had ... ...ingers were crossed and I was praying that it was our poster that won. The winning poster was held up and it was not ours. My heart sank and my face dropped. I felt sick. I turned to my friends and they did not seem bothered; that made me feel worse. The next two days were action packed. In the mornings, we went orienteering, and the evenings were spent round the campfire drinking sweet hot chocolate from the plastic mugs we had brought from home. By this time, everyone had got used to camp life and needless to say I had put the two unfortunate incidents (getting lost and losing the poster competition) behind me. It was going to be sad leaving the camp, but I was looking forward to going back to the comforts of home. Debts of Good Will and Interpersonal Justice ABSTRACT: A debt of good will (utang na loob in Filipino) is incurred when a person becomes the beneficiary of significant assistance or favor given by another. Usually, the beneficiary is in acute need of the assistance given or favor granted. This provides an opportunity for the giving of help to serve as a vehicle for the expression of sympathy or concern. The debt could then be appreciated as one of good will because, by catering to another person's pressing need, the benefactor is able to express positive dispositions towards the beneficiary. It is not merely the receipt of the assistance or favor that puts the recipient in a position of indebtedness. The indebtedness is created by the benefactor's kagandahang loob (good will). An act can be considered to convey kagandahang loob only if it is done out of kusang loob (roughly, free will); and can only be considered to have been done out of kusang loob if the agent (1) is not acting under external compulsion, (2) is motivated by p ositive feelings (e.g. charity, love or sympathy) towards the beneficiary, and (3) is not motivated by the anticipation of reward. These conditions entail debt-of-good-will relationships where the benefactor has no right to demand reciprocity but the beneficiary has a "self-imposed" obligation to repay kagandahang loob with kagandahang loob. Debts of good will are about some forms of justice. But we should not reduce all talk about debts of good will to talk about justice. Debts of gratitude are, in general, incurred by people who receive help or favors from others. But to say that a person has a debt of gratitude is not merely to say that he should be thankful for the assistance given. The indebtedness concerned is not confined to actual benefits received. In recognizing a debt of gratitude, one also recognizes the good will manifested by the benefactor in providing assistance or granting a favor. For this reason, this paper refers to "debts of good will" instead of "debts of gratitude." The contention is that the former terminology focuses attention on important features of the concept that the words "debt of gratitude" fail to capture. Another reason for the use of the preferred term in this paper is that the equivalent of "good will" in the Filipino language – kagandahang loob – has an important significance in related ethical theory.

Single Mom and Going Back To School I am in my mid-thirties and going back to school. I would have to say that my children are the primary reason behind this decision. I am their role model and teacher and I intend to be the best one possible. I want to show my children the endless possibilities of hard honest work. I want to send them to college and live comfortably. Throughout my personal experience, I have learned that anything is possible even while I am balancing a family, multi jobs and school. Once I left high school in 1992, I attended the Sawyer School for Business.With class to finish, I found out that I was pregnant and having problems. Because of my pregnancy problems, I had to leave school. I didn’t graduate because I was not able to complete that one class. After, that I had no motivation to go back to school; a decision I always regretted. A few years later, I got married and had a beautiful baby girl named Dominique. Now, she is eighteen and graduated high scho ol. I got divorced and went from working at a factory making curtains to being a security guard at the Convention center in Providence.At this time of my life, I thought to myself, â€Å"I could afford to go back and my kids need me†. Then, I met my boyfriend and two and a half years later, I was pregnant with my second daughter Selena; and she is now twelve and in the sixth grade in middle school. After working there for two years, I thought to myself, â€Å"I can’t work the third shift and working as a police dispatcher was a very stressful job†.So, I applied at the main office for the school department to become a secretary, although they were only hiring a sub-secretary. I immediately took the job; I wasn’t even considering school. Then, a few months passed and I was pregnant again with a beautiful baby boy named Dennis. Dennis is now six years old and in kindergarten. When he was born, I really did not have a job in mind, so I decided to start my own business by cleaning houses. This was the perfect job for me at the time because having a newborn, a six year old, and a twelve year old was a lot of work.It was very convenient for me to start house cleaning because I chose my hours. I was working two to three hours a day and was still available for my kids. At this point of my life that I still couldn’t go back to school. One day, I decided to apply for a job on the third shift because I needed the extra money and it would be convenient for my kids and I. Working at Atria in Portsmouth required me to tend to elderly people. The most important thing to me is caring for the residence.I enjoyed working there so much and it made me think that I could go back to school to become a CNA, or even become a nurse. During the summer of 2012, I thought, â€Å"What am I doing with my life? † I was cleaning houses and taking care of the elderly. I suddenly realized that my girls were older and my son was in kindergarten; it’s the perfect opportunity for me to accomplish my dream. So, I figured out my schedule so I would have plenty of time for work, school and my two youngest children.Finally, I thought to myself that I can go to school, get a degree, and maybe take my kids on vacation. Second, find out where you can get help financially. Third, find a safe place for your children.
